The Story Sprint

Your technology is solid. So why are investors still saying “interesting, but pass”?

Because the gap between “interesting, but pass” and a signed term sheet almost never comes down to your technology. It comes down to the story around it — and until that's fixed, even brilliant work keeps getting overlooked.

Your campaign matters. So why are donors still saying “maybe next year”?

Because the gap between “maybe next year” and a committed gift almost never comes down to your mission. It comes down to the story around it — and until that's fixed, even the most vital work keeps getting passed over.

Why Emmy
Emmy Wu

Two decades. One obsession.

Two decades in film production and go-to-market strategy, and a simple obsession: the story that makes an investor trust you in the first 10 seconds.

I've worked with founders whose companies now carry a combined valuation north of $146M — from medical device startups to consumer brands. Launches I've led have broken $1M in sales in under two weeks.

I come at your pitch like a film director comes at a scene — because a raise, like a movie, lives or dies in the opening. The first moment either earns attention or loses it. There's no second chance at a first impression when the room is full of investors with choices.

Two decades. One obsession.

Two decades in film production and go-to-market strategy, and a simple obsession: the story that makes a donor feel the mission in the first 10 seconds.

I've helped mission-driven organizations reach the people who fund them — a nonprofit partnership I sourced through cold outreach earned 573 media pickups and 152.2M in earned reach, and a 50,000-subscriber email rebuild for a hospitality client lifted open rates from 15% to 82% and helped drive back-to-back sold-out events.

I come at your case for support like a film director comes at a scene — because a campaign, like a movie, lives or dies in the opening. The first moment either earns attention or loses it. There's no second chance at a first impression when donors have a hundred other causes asking for the same thing.

The Story Sprint in Practice

What a clear story actually does.

These results started with a story diagnosis — the same process you get in the Sprint.

🌱

$20M valuation

Cleantech · StartEngine Campaign

A cleantech company with patented emissions-capture technology kept hearing “science project that will never ship.” We led with the human cost — “Asthma Alley,” “Diesel Death Zone” — not the engineering. The campaign launched at a $20M valuation and moved into build stage for their EU port installation.

🐾

$146K raised

Veterinary Biotech · StartEngine Campaign

A veterinary biotech company's clinical language — “patented biochemical test for early-stage periodontal pathology” — was technically accurate and completely forgettable. We led with love, not science. At an investor pitch, someone yelled ‘you had me at hello’ before the team even started speaking.

🧠

$94K raised · $15.48M valuation

Medical Device · Neurological Diagnostics

A neurotech company built a breakthrough pupillometric device — and nobody knew what that meant. We repositioned it as “the check engine light for your brain.” They raised $94K and surged to a $15.48M valuation with investors finally seeing the platform, not just the product.

📢

National Nonprofit Partnerships Activated

Nonprofit Partnerships · ALLMYNE

Built the partner program from the ground up and onboarded 7 mission-driven organizations. One partnership — sourced entirely through cold outreach — led to a co-branded activation that earned 573 media pickups and 152.2M in earned reach within five days, including coverage from Yahoo Finance, AP News, and KTLA Los Angeles.

🎥

Named “Best Fundraising Video”

Nonprofit · Columbia County Habitat for Humanity

The organization's VP called it the best fundraising video she'd seen. The Executive Director is still scheduling speaking engagements built around it.

🏠

82% Email Open Rate · 30% More Bookings

Hospitality · Saint John's Resort

A 50,000-subscriber list with a 15% open rate got rebuilt and segmented by what people actually cared about. Open rates rose to 82%, shoulder-season bookings grew 30% in three months, and the resort saw back-to-back sold-out events.

FAQ

I'm not sure which track fits me — founder or nonprofit. Does it matter?

Not for the process itself — both tracks follow the same five-step diagnostic. It just changes the language and the finished document, so the story speaks directly to the audience you're actually trying to move.

How is this different from Campaign Storytelling?

The Story Sprint is the strategy and narrative work — diagnosing your story and building the finished document and roadmap. Campaign Storytelling is the next step: producing that story into an actual video. Many clients do the Story Sprint first, then move into video once the narrative is locked.

What happens after I get my roadmap?

You'll walk away with a finished narrative document and a clear, prioritized set of next moves — ready to use immediately in pitches, donor meetings, or campaign communications, whether or not we keep working together after that.
