INDUSTRY: TRAVEL / CULTURAL IMMERSION
Tribal-Vision.Org
The Challenge
Tribal Vision partners with the Shipibo-Konibo community of Pahoyan, a semi-remote village in the Peruvian Amazon reachable only by boat, several hours downriver from Pucallpa. They needed two distinct pieces from one shoot — a video introducing the Shipibo community and their traditions to outside audiences, and a separate film built around the retreat experience itself — shot with no fixed production infrastructure and no shared spoken language between crew and community.
Our Approach
We traveled independently to Pucallpa, then downriver by boat to Pahoyan, arriving several days ahead of the group to acclimate before filming began. Over the course of the shoot, we spent time with the community beyond the camera — observing daily life, building trust without a shared language — and let that time shape both deliverables: a video centered on the Shipibo community’s stories, art, and traditions, and a companion retreat film built around participants’ own experience, plus a set of short social cuts for each.
The Results
Delivered both films and their social trailers, giving Tribal Vision a complete video library for community outreach and retreat marketing. It’s also one of the more demanding shoots in our portfolio — solo international travel with a full camera kit into a location with no backup crew or infrastructure — and the resulting footage remains some of the most personally meaningful work we’ve produced.
