The Challenge
California Cowboy didn’t just need investors – they needed believers. Founded by Drew Clark in 2016, the Marin County brand was pioneering a category that didn’t have a name yet: social-technical apparel, designed for après-ski, après-surf, music festivals, and beach-night bonfires. Their products were built around a simple but radical idea – that clothing should spark real-life conversation and bring out the extrovert in everyone. The challenge was translating that sensory, tactile, deeply California experience into a campaign video that could move retail investors to act on a screen.
Our Approach
We produced a campaign video and social ads that led with lifestyle energy before investment logic – because for a brand this personality-driven, feeling had to come before data.
Brand-first storytelling. Rather than opening with market size or financials, we opened with the California Cowboy world: sun, movement, social energy, and the unmistakable spirit of people who’d rather be outside. The investment case followed naturally from a place of desire.
Category creation on camera. “After sport” apparel didn’t exist as a category in most investors’ minds. We built the narrative around the gap – neither fashion nor tech were doing enough for the post-activity social moment – and positioned California Cowboy as the inevitable solution.
Campaign compliance navigation. We managed the full StartEngine compliance review process, refining language and visuals to meet SEC Reg CF standards without losing the brand’s irreverent edge.
The Results
CALIFORNIA COWBOY CAMPAIGN VIDEO
California Cowboy hit $50,000 raised on day one – in stealth mode, reaching personal networks only, before a single public post went live. When the campaign opened publicly, the response confirmed what the team had already sensed.
Drew Clark, Founder & CEO: “It’s been great working with you!”People are loving the video!”
